Color temperature describes the warm-to-cool color appearance of a light source on a Kelvin scale. Camera white balance uses this reference to render neutral objects without an unwanted blue or orange cast.
Lower Kelvin values such as tungsten lighting are visually warmer, while higher values such as daylight appear cooler. The terminology can feel counterintuitive because the Kelvin scale describes the physical color of an ideal radiator, not the emotional warmth viewers perceive.
